From London to Manhattan: The Story Behind Pet Sitting NYC
After moving to New York from London in 2014, I found myself at a crossroads. Having left the corporate world behind, I was exploring new paths in writing and coaching while acclimating to life in Manhattan. What began as a suggestion from my husband ("Why not try dog walking to get to know the city?") unexpectedly blossomed into a calling I never anticipated.
My first client, a bundle of white fluff named Bobo, changed everything. That initial meeting sparked a passion for personalized pet care that has defined my professional journey ever since. Even as my coaching practice for midlife women grew, I found I couldn't leave behind the joy and fulfillment that came from caring for Manhattan's most beloved companions.
The Mary Puppins Experience
It wasn't long before clients began referring to my services as "The Mary Puppins Experience", a nod to both my British background and the exceptional level of care I provide. While I smiled at the nickname, I recognized the truth behind it: there is something magical about creating peace of mind for pet parents who want nothing but the best for their furry family members.
Over the past decade, I've had the privilege of caring for dozens of pets across the Upper East Side, Upper West Side, and Midtown Manhattan. Each one has taught me something valuable about the art of attentive, personalized care.
Expanding Horizons
When the pandemic shifted many of my Manhattan clients to the suburbs and beyond, something remarkable happened. Rather than seeking new local pet care, they insisted on keeping me as their trusted provider, offering to cover travel expenses so their pets could continue receiving the care they had come to rely on.
This testament to client loyalty expanded the reach of Pet Sitting NYC far beyond the borough. Today, I regularly travel to Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Florida, and even as far as Los Angeles to care for pets whose families began their journey with me in Manhattan.
This expansion has transformed what began as a local service into something more personal and enduring: relationships that transcend geography, built on years of trust and care. It's a development I never anticipated, but one that speaks to the deep connections formed when you treat each pet as the individual they are.
Philosophy of Care
My approach is guided by a simple truth: every pet is an individual with unique needs, preferences, and personalities. What works for one may not work for another, which is why I take the time to truly know each pet in my care.
Whether it's remembering that Ben Franklin likes his daily affirmations, that Barnaby enjoys belly rubs after his morning walk, or that Riggins needs extra reassurance during thunderstorms—these details matter. This attentiveness creates an experience where both pets and their owners feel truly seen and understood.
Beyond Pet Sitting
When I'm not caring for Manhattan's most distinguished pets, I continue my work as a coach for midlife women, helping them navigate transitions and discover new possibilities. These dual passions—supporting both humans and animals through important life moments—complement each other beautifully.
My background in London and experience in various professional settings have given me a unique perspective that informs both aspects of my work: the ability to connect, to observe, and to provide exactly what's needed in the moment.
My Commitment
Whether I'm providing premium day care, overnight services, or accompanying your pet to special occasions, my commitment remains the same: to offer the exceptional, personalized care that has become my hallmark over the past decade.
I consider it a privilege to be trusted with your beloved companions, and I look forward to creating The Mary Puppins Experience for your pet.
